Quantified Risk Assessment
A key feature of a safety case is the requirement to demonstrate that all hazards with the potential to cause a major accident have been identified, that risks have been evaluated and measures taken to reduce risks to persons to as low as is reasonably practicable (ALARP).
QRA is an effective tool that may be applied to meet this requirement.
Services
QRA services offered by Vectra cover all aspects of risk assessment from the definition of acceptance criteria, the development of methods, hazard identification and quantification through to the selection of optimal risk mitigation options, including the use of cost benefit analysis. Risk assessment services of interest to industry and government include:
- Individual, environmental and societal risk determination
- Demonstration of risk criteria compliance
- Risk criteria derivation and appraisal
- Identification, recommendation and evaluation of risk mitigation options
- Cost benefit analysis of risk mitigation measures
- Quantification of risk with respect to consequences/ outcomes (e.g. jet and pool fire, explosion, toxic hazard, flash fire, structural failure, equipment item damage, personnel injury or fatality, environmental impact)
Tools
The Vectra Toolkit for consequence assessment and QRA includes:
- PHAST, FRED, CIRRUS, EFFECTS, ADMS - release, dispersion, fire
- AutoReaGas, FLACS - CFD Explosion Prediction
- RiskPlot, QUARK - QRA risk models
- ANSYS, USFOS, STAAD - structural response to fire and explosion
- EXODUS - Evacuation Modelling
